高原宁:男,1963年4月出生,黑龙江齐齐哈尔人,粒子物理学家,中国科学院院士,北京大学物理学院教授、博士生导师,北京大学物理学院学术委员会主任,核物理与核技术国家重点实验室(北京大学)主任,国家杰出青年科学基金获得者。兼任:中国物理学会副理事长、高能物理分会副主任,Science Bulletin/《科学通报》执行主编,《物理实验》主编等。1979年考入北京大学物理系,先后获得学士、博士学位;1989年博士毕业后进入中国科学院高能物理研究所工作;1999年至2001年担任ALEPH国际合作Higgs组两个召集人之一;2000年入选清华大学百人计划,组建粒子物理实验团队参加大型强子对撞机上LHCb实验的国际合作;2002年获得国家杰出青年科学基金资助;2004年至2018年担任清华大学高能物理研究中心主任;2018年到北京大学工作;2019年当选为中国科学院院士。主要从事高能对撞机上的粒子物理实验研究。参与的欧洲核子研究中心(European Organization of Nuclear Research)大型强子对撞机上底夸克物理实验(LHCb),宣布观测到由五夸克组成的重子态,这是首次发现五夸克粒子,被《科学》杂志评为年度物理学重要进展;参与的欧洲核子研究中心(CERN)大型强子对撞机(LHC)上的底夸克探测器(LHCb)实验组,宣布发现双粲重子,入选“2017年度中国科学十大进展”;承担国家重点研发计划“大科学装置前沿研究”重点专项项目、国家自然科学基金-CERN组织间合作研究项目等。2017年获中国物理学会王淦昌物理奖,2020年获陈嘉庚数理科学奖,2023年获首都劳动奖章。
Gao Yuanning: Male, born in April 1963 in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang. He is a particle physicist, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a professor and Ph.D. advisor at the School of Physics, Peking University, chair of its Academic Committee, director of the State Key Laboratory of Nuclear Physics and Technology (Peking University), and a recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He also serves as vice chairman of the Chinese Physical Society and deputy director of its High Energy Physics Division, executive editor of Science Bulletin, and editor-in-chief of Physics Experiment, among other roles.
He entered the Department of Physics at Peking University in 1979 and earned both his bachelor's and doctoral degrees there. After completing his Ph.D. in 1989, he joined the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 1999 to 2001, he served as one of the two conveners of the ALEPH International Collaboration Higgs Group. In 2000, he was selected for Tsinghua University’s Hundred Talents Program and formed a particle physics experimental team to participate in the LHCb experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. In 2002, he received funding from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. He was director of Tsinghua’s Center for High Energy Physics from 2004 to 2018, then moved to Peking University in 2018. In 2019, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
His research mainly focuses on particle physics experiments at high-energy colliders. He was involved in bottom quark physics experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHCb), where his team announced the observation of a baryon composed of five quarks—the first discovery of a pentaquark particle—which Science magazine named as one of the most important physics advances of the year. He also took part in the LHCb experiment that discovered a double-charm baryon, recognized as one of China’s Top Ten Scientific Advances in 2017. He has led major national R&D projects such as the “Frontier Research of Large Scientific Facilities” key special project and the NSF–CERN inter-organizational research collaboration. He received the Wang Ganchang Physics Prize from the Chinese Physical Society in 2017, the Chen Jiageng Mathematical Science Award in 2020, and the Capital Labor Medal in 2023.
